Missions - Children of the Drome.

I find that if you are reviewing music mentioning how a band sounds like another band is usually something you avoid, so instead I will mention the similarities Missions share with a  certain Swedish popular electronic group. I really like this, it is an element of electronic music that I have not heard done well for a long while. Infact I really missed this sound. I like loads of attack on synths and this delivers.

The Star Department - Porcelain Doll

Beautifully dark while also retaining an ambience, this tune has many aural layers that work so well together and make use of all the frequencies that create a full sound that is rarely achieved from a band in their early stages. This is the second single we have heard from the up and coming album , if they keep delivering such songs as Porcelain Doll we have a lot to look forward to.

There is a lot of talk about EL-P’s Cancer 4 Cure with good reason. “El Producto” uses the elements of 90s murdercore that based itself on the harsh dirty synth sounds and uses it in a modern context. El-P is less concerned with the vocal elements of that genre however instead he develops it’s sounds vocally and musically to make it more relavant. Considering it has been five years since I’ll Sleep When I am Dead was released El-p has been successful in regaining attention that easily gets lost in a increasingly short term consumption of music, el-p is not one to be chewed and spat out by the blogosphere. He is vocal about his hard work and his close friends are also very aware of it. Other artists that feature in this album would have worked closely with him in the recent past such as Killer Mike, Despot and Danny Brown. He doesn’t wish to stray to far too have people feature on this record. It is very much his own record in every element, a record that he can be proud of creating.

Tougher Colder Killer is on Cancer 4 Cure released on Fat Possum Records.

This is an odd picture, as if andre 3000s busking space had been taken. Andre is about due to him filming the Hendrix biopic, which as of yet has no rights to any of the back catalog, however I am very much looking forward to it.

“L.O.V.E”

I discovered Onra when browsing through All City Records artists last year, things have changed a lot since Les Chinoiseries. Where he used to heavily rely on sampling old traditional records he has now created something completely fresh that seems perfectly fitting to the blistering heat outside. This will be released on the Deep in the Night Ep which will be released on June the 12th through fools gold. If you enjoy this it may also be worth your while to check out Long Distance as it also has a heavy 80s influence.

You may be familiar with Ab-Soul from Schoolboy Q’s “Druggys with Hoes Again”. Terrorist Threats is from Ab-Souls “Control System”. On first listen of the album this song was the one that made itself known more than the others, mainly through its great production and also to my mild obsession with Danny Brown. Everything about this song and video are very different from what we are used to from both Danny Brown and Ab-Soul, political imagery injects itself into the empty frame that is throughout the video showing the social instability of the moment . It may have been so long that we are forgetting that we are still living the effects of what happened eleven years ago. To mention class in this song would feel as if I would be writing a review from a political economic stance, the case is that this is political commentary from where people are being most effected. Such lines as “I seen an image of hitler, in the picture, when the twin towers dropped” resonate through the song. Production on this track is solid and when dealing with political or social concerns these two have been successful, especially considering that most of their previous songs dealt with drugs and women. This is a great song even ignoring its context, these two will be about a lot this year.

Control System is available from TopDawg Ent.

Beautiful song from Kool A.Ds new album. Featuring Mondre MAN Trackademiks and Dope G.

Not too long to the first of two releases this year from Death Grips. There has been a steady leaking of their tunes in the run up to their release later this month and so far this would have to be my favorite just based on a few listens. A little easier to digest in comparison to the others. I was a big fan of Ex Military and I am looking forward to more.

Death Grips will be playing in May this year in Dublin. Will be a gig worth seeing.

I like taking screen captures, I managed to spot this slight glance at the camera in Hitchcocks “Rope” (1948)

Really nice video from Beeple who who has previously worked for Flying Lotus and DeadMaus.

This is bound to make you smile a bit.
